A Vancouver Pillow Fight Club

An East Vancouver Pillow Fight club. Yes, something like this does exist, and it’s good fun. Think off-Broadway meets UFC, only this isn’t about the belts, blood and violence. Instead, this is pure pillow on pillow action.

Simply, the The East Vancouver Pillow Fight Club EVPFC is “an all-girl troupe beating the crap outta each other for your enjoyment” and for a good cause to boot says Melanie Watts media representative for the club. There are judges that determine a winner, but it’s not like the UFC or mud wrestling and the women are not sexually objectified. The fighters are there to support each other, cheer each other on and have fun.

The EVPFC trains in a studio space in the underbelly of the down town east side – it is there they learn to fight and build their fight characters including: Blondie Bedlam, Hunter Down, Melitia, MediKated, Whisky Tango, Angella Kill, Lady Batarang, Tinkerhell, The Iron Maiden, Butchers Daughter, MissTreats, Hanky Planky, Flame Edna, and reigning champion, the Serbian Scrambler . What’s even better, the fighters participate for free and do so to help raise money for women’s charities around the city.

Every 8 weeks the club emerges from their private ‘training facility’ and fight for the EVPFC Cup to raise money for the Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter.A portion of the money raised from each EVPFC night held goes to the Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter – a women’s collective that is not funded by the government. Donated money doesn’t just go in a box at an EVPFC night, instead the crowd watches on in amazement as members attach bills to one of the clubs’ fighters in quite a peculiar way. You’ll have to see for yourself at the next event.

Pure fun, athleticism and entertainment are what makes the EVPFC a unique experience to Vancouver says Watts. The 8th EVPFC match is set for March 30th at the Astoria. Doors are at 8:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the St. Regis Bar & Grill, or online at Eventbrite.com.
