Adventure in Vancouver - two great expos come to town

The winter is wearing on. Seasonal Affective Disorder is doing its best to bum us out with bleary skies and moody cab drivers. It can have a very real effect, so much so that we no longer appreciate the irony of the SAD acronym. Now,  it has become  just irritating. Take heart though my winter weary friends. The next week has two expo events in Vancouver which are making it much easier to access outdoor adventures and eternal summers, even if it is just vicariously.

Vancouver Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show

This Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, the Vancouver Convention Centre is playing host to the Outdoor Adventure and Travel show. Over 200 exhibitioners will set up shop, with an amazing collection of displays (like a white water demo pool) to get you pumped for you next encounter with nature. This isn’t a hands-off affair either. There will be lots to learn from the free adventure photography seminar and free adventure presentations shared by some of the greats at the Adventure Theatre seminar (adventure, adventure, adventure).

This is a great time to look into planning your next adventure. Bring the kids along and get them a passport to the Junior Adventures Program, which lets them explore the show, collect stamps and, possibly, some prizes.

The Outdoor Travel and Tourism show takes place in the Vancouver Convention Centre, West Building, 1055 Canada Place. Admission is $12. For more information and schedule times, please visit their website.

Study and Go Abroad Expo

Following the Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show, on Tuesday, March 5, the Vancouver Convention Centre is hosting Canada’s largest international University and Travel Expo as the Study and Go Abroad Trade show comes to town. Almost 70 universities, volunteering programs, language education programs and travel organizations from all over the world will be in attendance.

While the event definitely has something for everyone interested in travel opportunities, it does have an academic lean. Most of the exhibitors are universities, many of which rank in the top 100 worldwide. The range of studies is pretty broad encompassing medicine, law, pharmacy, hotel management, business, technology, science, and culinary and liberal arts, among other fields.

The event runs just for one day, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 5.  Seminars begin a little earlier at 2 p.m. Best of all, it’s all free.

If you want to learn more make sure to check out Study and Go Abroad’s website so you can maximize your evening.

In life, there are few substitutes for adventure.
