Canucks to wear Millionaires Jersey on March 16 against Detroit

By Vancity Buzz Staff | 1 year ago | Speak Up

Last week, the Canucks debuted their “new” third jersey with the Vancouver Millionaires patch. Ever since that announcement there has been rampant speculation that the Canucks will wear the original Millionaires jersey for a regular game. In reality, there shouldn’t be any cause for speculation as the Canucks stated in their press release that they will be wearing the jersey for at least one game this season. However, it was a little ambiguous and thus the cause for confusion.

So we did what anyone would do and asked the Vancouver Canucks and were told that they WILL be wearing the Vancouver Millionaires uniform on March 16, 2013 against the Detroit Red Wings. Mark your calendars Canucks fans, this won’t be a regular occurrence!

Just a little tidbit of history, The Vancouver Millionaires won the Stanley Cup in 1915. The Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) champion Vancouver Millionaires swept the National Hockey Association (NHA) champion Ottawa Senators 3 games to 0 in a best-of-five game series. The finals were played in Vancouver, with Games 1, 3 and 5 played under PCHA rules. The Millionaires became the first team from the PCHA to win the Cup. So the next time someone says Vancouver has never won the cup, you let them know that we, the Millionaires, actually did in 1915.

    So… @VanCanucks… Where can I purchased said jersey. @VanCityBuzz http://192.241.196.111/2013/02/canucks-to-wear-millionaires-jersey-on-march-16-against-detroit/ #Canucks #Millionaires

Way to read the article, Scoopy. There’s a difference between a patch and the actual jersey…

  • CanucksRule

NOTE!! This could be the same nite the Canucks retire Pavel Bure’s #10. Pavel will be here in the 15th for some business event honouring Francesco Aquilini. Gotta read b/w the lines on this one folks!!

Its cool they are going to wear these throw backs. What i dont understand Is why they didn’t make an entire new modern 3rd jersy for it. Seems stupid to add a little V patch to the front of the old 3rd jersey.I will say though that new simple design for that V is exactly what our logo brand needs to be long term. Then thats our identity  Vancouver simple bold and our city. Then they can still use the Stick logo on the shoulder and use Johnny as our  maskot. I assume they will probably next year bring out an entire Modern V front crest logo. I just hope we dont use the stick as a new inform son.As the V stands better as again our identity.

  • Scoopy

Ya. Because they’d really want to keep Bure’s jersey retirement a surprise …

Against Detroit it would be more clever to wear a Victoria Cougars jersey…

  • Scoopy-Is-retarded

Dude, are you fucking retarded?  every article you posted is talking about the PATCH as the third jersey, something different from the ACTUAL MAROON jersey.

According to a team release, the organization also announced plans to further honor Vancouver’s hockey heritage “particularly in-game March 16th as the Canucks host the Detroit Red Wings.” Though no details were revealed about that March 16 event, it may be safe to assume Canucks players will don the full Vancouver Millionaires uniform, as modeled by Ryan Kesler on the Canucks’ Millionaires page. That, of course, would be awesome. These things, via Fort Nucks, are slick.

Thor, the legendarily cheesy Canadian faux-metal singer and champion bodybuilder was savvy enough to copyright the name and logo of the defunct Vancouver Millionaires back in 1999 with an eye on marketing team memorabilia.
Eleven years later, he cleaned up by selling the rights to the Canucks ownership group. Since then, the team’s fans have been listening to rumors and waiting for the debut of a Millionaires-inspired third jersey.
It finally happens on March 16, when the Canucks take on Detroit.

read again jackass … or just read the parts with the March 16th that I have copy and pasted for you. I just wish I could post them in crayon for you.

Yeah im pretty confused on what they are wanting to do with this. They released a new modern designed V patch on the old 3rd jersey. Yet they are releasing all new merchandise with only the old V logo. Why would they not release merchandise with the new modern logo.Maybe this is a hint that the New V patch will be an entire front Crest logo for next years 3rd jersey.

The link below shows the difference from the New V logo on the jersey compared to the merchandise around it.  The new V is way betteer. Letters stand out way more when they are the only ones that are different color from the uniform.

I think it would be cool if the Canucks (or red wings) provided Jerseys like the old Victoria Cougars jerseys, we could have a battle of BC for once. For a quick bit of history on the Victoria Cougars, they were the team of Victoria BC, and won the Stanley cup in 1925, before relocating to Detroit, and going through a few name changes before becoming the Detroit Red Wings.

NOTE!!  this may be the game where pavel bure’s #10 hits the rafters of rogers arena.  of course, nothing official has been announced.  but pavel will be here on the 15th as a guest of francesco aquilini at some business dinner honouring the canucks owner.  so totally reading between the lines on this one.

Why can’t the just go back to the skate logo and colours!!! Vancouver Orca’s suck!

  • Rico

Canucks are just borrowing the Jersey’s from the GIANTS who have worn them many of times.

  • canucksfan88

Wrong. The Victoria Cougars folded when the WHL was bought out by the NHL. Detroit was granted an expansion team, purchased the contracts for some of the WHL Cougars players and adopted the Cougars name. It is not a relocation.

Excellent new Uniform! I use 3 rules to liking a Sports Uniform. No grey or Silver/. Not too many Lines everywhere( like the Blackhwaks)/. And some nice color. I also like the Flyers white uniforms……which follow these 3 rules. Good job……whosever behind this. I’m very much looking forward to the March 16 game!
