The Twelfth Annual Unsilent Night Vancouver electronic carolling parade is right around the corner, so stop by and enjoy a nice, relaxing walk through Grandview-Woodlands and Commercial Drive, while we create Unsilent Night on an unknown number of portable music players. Everyone’s invited, so bring your friends, family, kids, and even your dog!
Unsilent Night Vancouver
7:16 AM PST, Mon December 17, 2012
“New York (Resident) Phil Kline composed Unsilent Night in 1991 as a non-denominational way of celebrating the holiday season. Participants bring portable music players and each is given one of four “parts” that will be played simultaneously. The music is specially created to blend and morph as the participants naturally shift places and walking speeds while their players each contribute their own slightly different playback speed. The resulting sound is beautiful and ethereal.”
“Unsilent Night has been an annual event in downtown Manhattan for over fifteen years, with hundreds of participants both young and old. The more people who participate, the better it gets! This year it will be performed in over 25 cities including Brussels and Saskatoon! Read more about this international event, and listen to samples here.”
Our walk will take place on December 23, 2012. We will meet in the north parking lot of John Hendry Park [aka Trout Lake] at 6:45pm near the white storage container. At 7:00pm we will count down to press “play” and walk through Grandview-Woodlands, ending at Grandview Park on Commercial Drive. The whole walk takes about 40 minutes at a gentle pace. Dress warmly and wear comfy shoes or boots. Some people come equipped with antlers and tinsel! Be creative and have fun.
Bring a tape player, CD player, or MP3 player (with external speakers). CDs and tapes will be handed out at the event. Those who wish to use MP3 format can download the music from here. There’s an App for that too! If you don’t have a music player you are still welcome to join the procession and just enjoy the music.
Don’t forget to RSVP! We need to know how many tapes/CDs to bring! If you would like to take part in Unsilent Night, contact Al at 604.873.4334, send an email to email@example.com, or sign up on Facebook.
