The past year has been a rough one for the video game industry in Vancouver, and it’s by no means out of the woods just yet. However, the local industry is getting a much needed boost today as Microsoft Studios officially opens the doors to their new gaming studio, Black Tusk Studios in Yaletown.
The studio will be located at the corner of Robson and Cambie, and will focus its efforts on blockbuster games. Their main focus is on developing Microsoft’s next big video game franchise.
The Black Tusk team currently sits at 50 and they are looking to double the size by the end of 2012 and further expansion in 2013.
Over the summer, a few studios packed up and left town, including Radical Entertainment and Rockstar Games, as a result of the changing landscape in the video game industry and tax incentives offered by Ontario and Quebec. The opening of Black Tusk Studios is a shift in the right direction.
