According to The Province, Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini will be hopping on the plane to meet with Pavel Bure for a very important dinner. At this point, you can connect the dots and come to the conclusion that the Vancouver Canucks are finally going to retire Bure’s number 10. I don’t see him travelling all the way to Florida to tell him he’s going to be making the Ring of Honour.
Some Canucks fans may be sour to the notion of Bure’s number being retired. However, to not see the jersey of the only Canuck to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame hanging from the rafters of Rogers Arena is just ridiculous. Pavel was the best Canuck to ever lace up the skates. He alone was responsible for creating an entire new generation of Vancouver Canucks fans. No disrespect to Captain Canuck Trevor Linden, but Bure’s electricity was unmatched.
It’s time to end the petty bickering amongst fans, management, and like Russell Peters always says, do the right thing. It’s time to retire Bure’s number, a night many Canucks fans will want to be in the arena for.
