Vancouver based Force Four Entertainment is developing the Canadian version of the UK series, The Audience.
The Audience is an interesting and modern way to combined today’s view of “Social Therapy”. Each day millions of people head to their Twitter and Facebook friends to ask for advice on everyday situations, problems and major decisions, yes I said major decisions. With technology these days, why ask your co-worker if you should cheat on your spouse when you can just tweet to your favorite talk show host or celebrity therapist.
So, how does it work? For an entire week 50 ordinary people with a wide range of age, experience, and diverse backgrounds, will follow around a person facing a life-changing decision. The “person with a dilemma” opens their lives to the audience, and at the end of the week, the audience will draw on their collective life experience to help a person in need and provide thoughtful, valuable advice, that should help the individual move forward and make a decision.
The dilemmas can be as complex as “Should I give my sister my reproductive eggs?” to ever day issues like; “Should I leave my successful job?” “Should my adult son move back in with me?” The Audience brings the concept of social networking to television and explores the question: Can the “wisdom of the crowd” change a person’s life for the better?
Filming of The Audience will begin late November and is set to air nationally on Corus Entertainment’s W Network. All Metro Vancouver applicants are welcome, just email firstname.lastname@example.org your information, or visit www.facebook.com/theaudiencecanada for participant instructions and more information.
I can admit, I’m tempted to submit my name and become a member of “The Audience”. I already follow people around all week and give advice, I might as well do it without the restraining order.
