Okanagan Spring Brewery celebrated the launch of Mild Winter Ale Saturday night with a packed room at The Edge on Granville Street. The weather outside was less than hospitable (you may have heard some reports of intermittent snow downtown) but inside the mood was festive and guests kept warm with toques and scarves. The beer, of course, was flowing.

Brewmaster Stefan Tobler was on hand to answer questions about the new brew, a combination of deep-roasted maltiness and caramel-coloured sweetness. “Developing Mild Winter Ale was a labour of love,” said Tobler. “Its unique flavour is derived from a special blend of malts, Northern Brewer and Hersbrucker Hops. But its true ale character is derived from the yeast and fermenting at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. The resulting chestnut-coloured brew is one that all beer enthusiasts can enjoy.”

With the introduction of Mild Winter Ale, the first of its kind in Canada, Okanagan Spring is expanding the lucrative seasonal craft beer category and providing seasonal beer drinkers with the novelty they desire.

The new Winter Ale is now available in liquor stores in six-packs and in the Winter Craft Variety Pack, as well as on tap at local bars and restaurants.
