Granville Island is a special place to all Vancouverites – it’s a place where Canadian culture can be witnessed and the best local food can be had. It’s also a great place for a date, because nothing beats gazing into the ocean and watching the sunset with a loved one. A fantastic Granville Island date can be finished off with a romantic dinner at Edible Canada, a Canadian bistro that’s on site. This restaurant stands out from the crowd because they pride themselves in using only Canadian products and ingredients. Originally they were posted inside the Granville Island market, but as their popularity gained they opened into a full restaurant as of last year. Even Trevor Linden is a regular here! Currently for the month of October they are offering a $30 4-course prix fixe dinner that has an unbelievable value and shouldn’t be missed.

For the first course appetizer, the Hazelmere Butternut Squash & Apple Soup is absolutely amazing. It is light and full of fresh flavour, and thus it is the perfect way to start off any meal.

The second course is more savoury than the first. The Fall Squash Risotto in this course is fantastic because it’s not too heavy and it has a rather interesting taste. Flavoured with Okanagan apples and mustard cream, this dish has much appreciated lighter taste than most risottos.  The slice of pancetta crisp on top is just the cherry on top of it all.

The other second course option is the Vij’s Curry Crusted Wild Albacore Tuna, a favourite amongst the staff at this restaurant. It has several fresh slices of tuna served with fingerling potatoes, sweet corn, kale, and cherry tomatoes. Altogether, this plate is a wild yet refreshing sensation for your taste buds.

The third course is the main course and has the heavier dishes. The Rosemary Braised Peace Country Lamb Shoulder is a rather neat dish to try. The braised lamb here is in the shape of a pie and is covered in some delectable gravy. The braising process make the lamb super soft and gives it a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Alongside the lamb are some seasonal vegetables and even some slices of nectarines.

Another third course dish is the Alberta Angus Flatiron Steak. This 8oz sous-vide steak is a pleasure to eat since it is extremely tender and drenched in red wine jus.

The steak is also accompanied with some fries that taste fantastic with the restaurant’s homemade ketchup.

For dessert, the Granville Island Tea Company Chai Brulee on the menu is a fantastic choice. It’s very similar to a creme brulee but has hints of chai tea in it as well, so its great for all tea lovers out there.

The other option for dessert is the Spiced Ginger Cake. This ginger cake has a spiced taste and is covered in some delicious caramel sauce.

After dinner, be sure to check out Edible Canada’s store inside the restaurant. It sells over 800 cooking products that you don’t come a cross on a day-to-day basis from. From Caesar’s rimming salt to lobster oil, they really have it all. Best of all, these are all Canadian products too!

$30 for a 4-course meal is hard to come across in Vancouver nowadays, and for the quality of food that you can get at Edible Canada, this deal is absolutely unbelievable. You can view their prix fixe menu in full here. I was told that Edible Canada strives to offer the best quality for the best price, and that I don’t doubt at all. So if you’re looking to have a date night in October that won’t break the bank, make a reservation here and indulge yourself in Canada’s finest foods.
