As Openfile reported last week, 955 East Hastings mid rise tower proposal will go to city council this Tuesday, September 18, 2012. The proposal, if approved, will solidify the gentrification that is already underway in the eastern edge of the DTES.

It would be a shame if the neighbourhood opposition and or city council got in the way of this development. It’s exactly what the neighbourhood needs at this point, dense midrise buildings with a little bit of architectural flair and nod to East Hastings industrial roots.  One of the great features of this project is that it will have commercial as light industrial at the base.

As we stated in our previous article:

The building will consist of three mid-rises ranging from 10 to 12 storeys in height. The residential component will have 282 market units and 70 non-market housing units. If priced right, this can be a catalyst for the neighbourhood as the push towards the east continues.

And that’s why you’re not an architect.

i am and the problem with renderings like this is that it will never look like that once the building envelope engineers and structural engineers are done with it, adding their flashings ruining the fine details and posts everywhere. what is the cladding material anyway?
