Earlier today (Septemer 13, 2012) we told you about Nordstrom’s pending Canadian arrival. Well it looks like the earliest store will not open until 2014 in Calgary. Vancouver will be third in line and will have the largest Nordstrom in Canada.  The company is partnering with Cadillac Fairview, one of North America’s largest investors, owners and managers of commercial real estate, to lease four stores at premier shopping centres located in Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.

Nordstrom will be moving into space that will be vacated by Sears and then renovated at Pacific Centre in Vancouver, Calgary’s Chinook Centre, Rideau Centre in Ottawa, with a new-construction store opening in Toronto’s Sherway Gardens. Wow it is going to take a long time, but the up side is they are killing the mosterously dated exterior of the old sears store, which is a 80s crime against architectural humanity.

Great that the Sears building is going. So far no official drawings to confirm the design I guess?

Are you sure that they will open their head office here? I read that the CEO for Canada is moving to Toronto next year.

You need to stick to the facts of the story. The press release following the one announcing Nordstrom’s Canadian expansion was the one announcing the new president of Nordstrom Canada, who will be residing in Seattle for the next year before relocating to Toronto with her husband. Furthermore, there was never any mention of where a Nordstrom Rack would presumably go, nor was there any mention of the building looking like the render above. It’s great that we’re all excited for Nordstrom (I’m as excited as a child going to Disneyland), but really – this is how rumours start (and get out of hand).
