Crime Statistics 2011 Vancouver Canada
The police-reported crime rate, which measures the total volume of crime per 100,000 population, continued to decline in 2011, down 6% from the previous year. Once again Metro Vancouver was in the top 10 in the crime severity index. Two other B.C. metro areas, Kelowna and Abbotsford were also in the top ten. Vancouver’s overall crime rate was down 7% from 2010. Violent crime was down 9% from 2010 and non-violent crime was down 6%.
Out of the the countries three largest census metropolitan areas Vancouver had the highest crime rate at 94.5. Montreal came in at 80.9 and despite all the recent coverage of gun violence in Toronto, it’s the safest of the three cities by a wide margin as it reported a crime rate of 54.9. In terms of violent crime Vancouver and Montreal were pretty much even Toronto came in at the national rate.
