As we near the Games in London later this month, a great local charity is giving Team Canada fans a way to cheer on their athletes of today while supporting our athletes of tomorrow. The charity is called Athletics for Kids (A4K) and their summer campaign is the A4K Podium Pledge for Kids.
A4K is asking local businesses and sports enthusiasts to make a pledge towards the total number of medals that Team Canada will win at the Games. So when one of our athletes claims gold, silver or bronze, not only do they and the rest of Canada win, but so do those kids in BC that dream of playing sports but aren’t able to due to a lack of funds.
The campaign allows supporters to pledge at certain levels between $2 and $100 per Team Canada medal. A4K’s goal is to accumulate $1000 in pledges per Canadian medal and with the red and white expected to match or improve on their Beijing medal total of 18, this campaign has the potential to fund hundreds of youth sport fees this year.

A4K is based in North Vancouver and aims to eliminate the financial barriers to entry to amateur sport for youth all across BC. Specifically, they cover 80% of basic registration fees for pretty much any sport you can name up to $600 per child per year. Last year they funded 388 kids and this year they expect to support approximately 500 as demand for their services continues to increase as it has virtually every year since its inception 10 years ago.
