Metal Flake Remix

Local Twitter impresario (and former VCB #FF recipient) Bret Taylor (@bretinvancouver, for the uninitiated) will be holding his third solo art exhibition this Saturday, June 16th at Imagemaker Photographic Studio in East Vancouver, and nobody should pass up the opportunity to catch this fantastically talented local artist.

Bret is a multi-discipline visual artist, working in illustration, graphic design, and fine/pop art, and has been drawing and painting his entire life (says Bret: “It’s just how I make sense of the world.”)  As of this post, he’s on day 890 of a projected 1,000 consecutive days of art (The 1,000 Days Project). While it seemed like a daunting task at first, it’s now becoming second nature to him, and the show is the opportunity for the general public to appreciate the fruits of his labors.

A pop artist in the vein of  Bill Sienkiewicz and David Mack, Bret is influenced and inspired by the hallmarks of pop culture: rock ‘n’ roll, comics, hot rods, science fiction as well as “the years I spent growing up in bars, the places I’ve  travelled and (especially) the amazing people who’ve touched my life. I like to think I’m more than just the sum of my influences. I’m gradually developing an overall vision of art and life and my place in the world.”

Metal Flake Remix will repurpose visual elements from Bret’s October 2011 show, Metal Flake and will also mark his first time attempting live art during the exhibition.

You can see it all happen on June 16th at Imagemaker Photographic Studio (210-2075 Yukon Street at 4th). Doors open at 6:00PM, and the paint will start to fly around 7:00. (Bring a business card to be entered into a draw for one of Bret’s paintings.) For more information on the event, please check out the Facebook event page here.
