Vancouver based Lionsgate Films, is in the works of creating television shows based on the “Twilight”, “Step Up”, “Red” and “Expendables” films.
Chief Executive Jon Feltheimer revealed the news on a conference call with analysts this past Thursday morning. The titles are the first examples of Lions Gate partnering its television production division with properties from Summit, which did not have its own TV unit.
Feltheimer previously said that he hoped Lions Gate could turn Summit’s teen vampire blockbuster franchise “Twilight” into a TV show, but the company has not yet taken any steps to do so, as it is focused on the fifth and final film that hits theaters in November.
I have never been a fan of “Twilight”, but from a financial perspective I can see how they’d want to milk it for all it’s worth. Lionsgate purchased Summit for more than $400 million- the “Twilight” series was billed as the biggest part in the sale.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer did not provide any additional details about what form the potential shows may take, whether they would be filmed in Vancouver or how far in the future they will be developed.
Lionsgate already has a television show based on a popular movie set to debut, “Anger Management,” featuring Charlie Sheen. The series is slated to air on FX in the United States this summer, and on CTV Canada at a later date.
