According to Canucks Insider, Luongo Traded to Florida Panthers

Canucks insider @Samjam99 just tweeted Roberto Luongo has been traded to the Florida Panthers. No word yet on what the details of the trade are, but he claims the deal is done like dinner.

Please keep in mind that this is the same Canucks insider who tweeted Luongo was going to Toronto and had met with Leafs doctors.  However, he seems pretty confident that the deal is complete. He also tweeted that the reason the Toronto deal fell through is that Gillis wanted Gardiner but Burke wouldn’t budge.

This news comes the morning after Cory Schneider was signed to a 3 year $12 million deal. It makes a lot of sense that Luongo would go now that the final nail is in the coffin – it has been discussed endlessly how the Canucks can’t hold 9+ million in goaltending and it looks like Cory is here to stay. As previously mentioned, Aaron Portzline reported that Luongo wanted to go to Florida. Mike Gillis also tweeted that there would be more news coming when he revealed the Schneider contract, so this being the big reveal doesn’t seem too farfetched.
