Richmond Plans to Build an International Waterfront Plaza

Richmond Waterfront Plaza YVR

Billed as the largest single development in the history of Richmond, 19 times larger than the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Vancouver International Plaza is being proposed for Duck Island ( waterfront land right next to River Rock Casino). The 4 million square foot proposal includes retail/entertainment, offices, hotel and conference space, a 300 boat marina and possibly a small ferry terminal. Maybe even a Ferris wheel? Okay the Ferris wheel is just my input for the area but it would be cool.

Jingon International Development Group (Chinese developer) has submitted an early rezoning application for 73 acres of land next to River Rock Casino Resort. Once complete it could feature several floating restaurants, six high-end hotels, shops, bars, theatres and marina office space. This won’t be built at once. This will likely be a phased project based on current economic conditions and demand.

The proposal is in the very, very early stages. The site is currently vacant and will be home to the Richmond Night Market for the next three years.

More on this as it develops.
