Vancouver’s office market continues to pick up steam as another proposal has been added to the already extensive list. The latest proposal is by VIA Architecture. They have applied to the City of Vancouver to build a a 32-storey office building, with retail and a bike station at grade. Interesting enough the top floor will be dedicated to childcare, not a bad view for the little ones to enjoy. Located at 320 Granville Street, currently the site of an unsightly parkade in what is arguably one worst places for pedestrian activity in all of downtown, this proposal, when and if it sees the light of day, will be a great addition to the are.

As for the design of the project, it’s too early to tell. I’ll reserve judgement until official renders come through. At 380,000 sq. ft and a height of 390 feet (32 storeys), this will be a pretty sizable chunk of office space.

Currently three office projects are either under construction or set to begin construction real soon in the downtown business district. There is 1021 West Hastings, 745 Thurlow and the Telus Gardens, not sure how much more space can be built in the Vancouver. Regardless, this is definitely welcome news and will hopefully help keep the resort town status away from Vancouver.
