Metropolis at Metrotown is taking action against bullying and inviting British Columbians to do the same by expressing their creativity through an online T-Shirt Design Contest. The contest is on now through February 15th at the Metropolis at Metrotown Facebook page.

“Metropolis at Metrotown is B.C.’s largest shopping centre and a popular destination for local youth. We want to be part of the anti-bullying solution by promoting anti-bullying awareness and empowering youth to stand up for themselves and each other,” says Artie Chumpol, Digital Market and Public Relations Manager, Metropolis at Metrotown. “We think this design contest is a great way to engage the entire community on an issue we all face at some time or another.”

Each participant will design a t-shirt that promotes the message of anti-bullying awareness. Each designer will have the opportunity to “share” his or her t-shirt design through Facebook, encouraging Facebook friends and others to vote for them. The winning design, determined by the virtual t-shirt that receives the most online votes, will be produced on a t-shirt and sold at Metropolis at Metrotown from February 17th to February 29th, Pink Shirt Day. All proceeds from the sale of the winning t-shirt will be donated to Kids Help Phone.

“Kids Help Phone’s professional counsellors assist kids more than 4,300 times a week either through phone or web consultation,” says Lauren Davies from Kids Help Phone. “We’re thrilled to have the support of Metropolis at Metrotown and we want everyone to go online and express their creativity by designing an anti-bullying t-shirt. It will make a difference in the lives of many kids, possibly even someone you know.”

The initiative runs in conjunction with Pink Shirt Day, taking place February 29 and recognized province-wide as anti-bullying day. On February 29, everyone is encouraged to wear something pink to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere.
