It’s almost down to the wire and you still have to get gifts. Well ladies just remember that guys are always easy to buy for. You can always get the traditional electronics (see our electronics guide) and you’ll never go wrong. However, if you want to think a little outside the box, check out this list:

Gifts for the stylish man:
1. Bow tie ($30+) The bow tie is a classic and every man should have at least one. You can get them in different price ranges. For cheaper, yet still stylish options head to H&M or Mexx. For more variety and styles head to Brooks Brothers (on Alberni Street), Holt Renfrew or my personal favourite Harry Rosen.

2. Jeans: $70+

Most men have the standard blue jeans in different shades. Go out and grab a pair of grey or tan jeans to mix things up a little.

3. Shoes: (various prices)

You can go local and get a pair of Native Shoes. If you’re looking for something more formal go to either Aldo or Harry Rosen. I suggest Harry Rosen, you can’t put a price on style. For the sneaker freaker in your life head on over to Gastown or 4th avenue and check out Livestock.

4. Gloves:$16+

It’s cold, but you still want to text or make that phone call on your touch screen phone. Well, you can get some good gloves from Urban Outfitters that let you keep your gloves on and still text on the go. Or you can go the hobo chic route and get fingerless gloves. Both available at Urban Outfitters.

The Gift of Art & Literature:

1. This is East Van ($35): A community photography project that has published a book of photos submitted by community members depicting what East Vancouver is to them. It can be found at various shops around the east side. I got my copy from Mintage on Commercial. The perfect coffee table book for the East Vancouverite in your life.

2. The Life of Steve Jobs ($20+): A biography of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. This is a must for the Mac head in your life.

3. Banksy Locations & Tours ($30+):  Check out the latest street installations by guerilla art icon Banksy. In three guided tours, Martin Bull documents 65 London sites where one can see some of the most important works by the legendary political artist. Shop online and get this at ADFM.

4. Esquire Magazine Subscription ($13+): It’s affordable and perfect for the guy in your life that doesn’t necessarily like to read books.

Gifts for the Geek:

1. Nintendo Monopoly ($39.99 +): Board games and video games all in one box, how could you go wrong.

2. Designer Toys ($10+): Ever since Voltage on Main Street closed down it’s been difficult to find a one stop shop for vinyl toys. Check local comic book stores and various other downtown boutiques such as El Kartel to get your fix.

3. Settlers of Catan: With elements of Monopoly + Risk this is the ultimate board game.

4. Alarm Clock for iPhone ($45+):  We all use our phones for alarm clocks. The one pictured above may be the coolest one out there. You can find it online or at Urban Outfitters.
