Young Women in Business Screening: Miss Representation

3% of clout positions in the mainstream media,
3% of Fortune 500 CEO’s,
7% of mainstream film directors,
16% of film protagonists,
17% of the US Congress,
yet our gender is representative of 51% of the population in the United States.

Young Women in Business (YWib), in collaboration with the YWCA Metro Vancouver, Networking in Vancouver, PeaceGeeks and Vancouver’s Women Business Networks, is excited to be hosting a double screening, as well as speaker panel, of the powerful documentary Miss Representation. Miss Representation explores the exploitation of women through media and looks to inspire positive change for the future.

Recognizing this film’s powerful topic and inspirational message, these groups have come together to start a conversation of change in Vancouver across all ages, genders and backgrounds. This powerful documentary premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and since has been viewed over a million times to date. It was written, directed and produced by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, a graduate of Stanford University Business School and Actor. Miss Representation was a huge collaboration and includes big names in media such as Katie Couric, Rosario Dawson, Jane Fonda, Cory Booker and Lisa Ling to name a few. The double screening and speaker panel will take place Monday, December 5th, 2011 at the Vancouver International Film Centre, 1181 Seymour Street. The first screening has already sold-out so do not miss your chance at tickets for the second showing at 9:15pm. Panelists will be confirmed mid-week this week.
