The 8th Annual Vancouver Rogers Santa Claus Parade will take place on Sun December 4th at 1pm in Downtown Vancouver. It should be noted that this year the parade’s route has changed due to the ongoing Occupy Vancouver protests at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Having attended the last few years, I’ll definitely be checking it out once again this year, even though I found last years parade a little underwhelming. I think it could benefit from more floats and perhaps bleacher seating. That being said the parade is still a definite hit with young ones waiting to catch a glimpse of jolly old Saint Nick.  It’s estimated that over 300,000 people will watch the parade, making it one of the larger parades in the city.

Here is the new parade route map:

I attended my first and last parade 4 years ago. Some people have no regard for others. People trampled over children to get out of the route, there was a lot of tension and I did not enjoy the parade at all. It was very boring and lacked excitement. It was a shame, as I was really looking forward to it and to enjoy the sighting of Santa with my husband and young son.

Sounds like you were there to see Santa yourself, and not for the foremost benefit of you child. Simple solutions:
    1) Get out of the way of the crowd,
    2) Wait longer before trying to leave,
    3) Stop being so self absorbed, there are places on the parade route that aren’t so crowded, they’re just not the ULTIMATE location,
    4) RELAX! You were probably the one with all the tension, It’s a parade, not a Boxing Day sale

We’ve taken our young daughter the past 3 years and love the idea but not the spirit of the crowd. It’s not uncommon to see adults scrambling to gather candy for themselves and unwilling to give up curb seats for children. Plus, most people don’t realize it’s an opportunity to give to the Food Bank. I’d like to see more goodwill toward our fellow neighbors.
