2010 was an amazing year for us. From Vancity Buzz to you, enjoy ringing in the new year with style alongside beloved friends and family. We wish you a 2011 filled with health, prosperity and a lot of love. Taking a retrospective look back on 2010, I thought we could summarize our experience into a few words:
In a similar fashion to most things great, Vancity Buzz was created in 2008 in the basement of a South Vancouver home. At that time, the site was merely the pipe dream of a few people that wanted to create a beneficial platform for the city reporting news, events and ideas for thought. We made mistakes, published typos and our site cried out for a redesign. We went through a steep learning curve and came out on top, establishing ourselves as a great resource for Vancouver. We have since built a small (but mighty team), put our heads together and have had the pleasure of connecting with our larger social media community and some great partners in the city. What a joy it has been to work with some of the city’s finest.
One of the most rewarding accolades we’ve ever received was the #2 spot in the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver for blogging and Tweeting. Thank you everyone that voted! We also put together 12 Days of Giveaways which was an overwhelming success with thousands and thousands of entries. It was a rewarding time to work with some great companies and PR people in the city as we collectively gave away a signed Luongo jersey, cameras, an iPod stereo system, a night stay at the Pan Pacific and so much more.
A huge thank you to our partners at Open Road Scion (@ORScion) as we worked together to put together our biggest giveaway to date, a 1 year lease of a Scion! How amazing was that. We couldn’t have done it without the support from our readers and partners. Thank you so much to all of you. More thanks to all of you who write to Vancity Buzz inviting us to your events and for recognizing us as an online space for assembly. To those of you that are active on Twitter or Facebook, we read every #FollowFriday and see every “Like”. Thank you for supporting us on various outlets.
We also took our online presence, offline and worked with Reach Magazine and brought to you the co-production of The Buzz Event presented by Investors Group. The evening brought together business-makers and city-shakers to have fun, mingle, relax and discuss industry trends with their peers. Stay tuned in the new year for the next installment of this series.
We’re happy about the strides we’ve made but we’re hungry for more. We already have in the works, two new features that we will introduce in early January that I am particularly excited for. As we bring to you more interesting content, and strengthen relationships with our existing readers and establish new ones, our crystal ball tells us that 2011 will be a good one.
