Vancouver Model: Joanna Portka
Joanna’s family came to Canada from Poland when she was only 2, and she can’t imagine her life anywhere else than in BC! She loves being surrounded by nature, and describes herself as a cold weather person. She can’t ask for anything better than being in the water, camping or snowboarding. Her two passions in life are animals and travel. She currently works at the airport and hopes to one day become a flight attendant.
Vancity Buzz: As a new comer to the modeling scene, what are your goals for this, if any?
Joanna: I’ve always had an interest in modeling and photography, but it never really went past just playing around with friends in front of a camera. A few months ago I had an offer for a photo shoot and I was thrilled at the opportunity! I couldn’t say no and I loved every minute of it. I don’t have any set goals but I’m definitely going to keep doing it and see where it takes me while people are still interested in shooting me!
VcB: Describe a typical day off?
Joanna: I like to take it easy. Usually that’s grabbing a coffee and going for a walk to the beach with a friend, heading out to North Van to see my brother, or just having a night at home with a good movie.
VcB: I know you’re a big music fan, what’s your favourite band of all time?
Joanna: Hands down favourite is Green Day. My best birthday gift was when I got to see them for the first time in concert. They are an amazing group with undeniable passion and love of what they do. In my eyes they are one of only a handful of bands that have changed the face of music history. Not to mention when you combine hearing Holiday played after the Canucks score on home ice? Now that’s just too much of a good thing!
VcB: Favourite thing about Vancouver?
Joanna: The people. That is what defines this city and makes it so great
