Every week we at Vancity Buzz try to profile a young aspiring model that calls Vancouver home or at  the very least at one point called Vancouver home. See our previous profiles here. This week we interviewed the very lovely Dana Maye.

Vancity Buzz: Tell us a few things about yourself?

Dana: I have always wanted to model since I was very young. It has to be a passion because it’s a hard industry to break into. I enjoy all forms of art. I model, paint, sculpt, dance and sing in the shower.

VcB: Sing in the shower, I do that myself [laughs]. Moving on, you’ve been modeling for about a year now, how has the experience been thus far?

Dana: My experience modeling so far has been great! Working with different photographers, designers and models really helps build versatility and I have learned so much in such little time. I was so nervous my first shoot I wanted to back out, but you have to just move past that. No one is there to hold your hand while you attempt to build a modeling career. There is so much competition that you can’t be scared.

VcB: Any unusual/weird experience?

Dana: Nothing too crazy but I do warn aspiring models there are some creeps out there. I was once offered a flight and stay at a photographers mansion in New York and he wanted to shoot nudes. He wanted me to bring a girl friend but not a male. He went on to tell me about how he was shooting girls in the past and they began “fooling around” on the beach and he joined in and asked if this were something I’d be open to. So be very careful!

VcB: You stated you love to paint and sculpt, even having done some nude sculptures. Would you consider doing a nude sculpture of me [laughs]?

Dana: [Laughs]I have done a nude, in fact that’s all I’ve done. I have a very keen eye for the human body, both men a women. That is why I love modeling. The body can express so much emotion in the slightest movement, it’s beautiful. As for your nude sculpture, I thought you would never ask. I have a 6’2 replica of you in my room. Hope your not creeped out 😉

VcB: [laughs] For the record I was just kidding about that. Besides painting and sculpting, what other hobbies do you have?

Dana: I enjoy horseback riding, especially jumping, I enjoy target shooting, and going to the comedy club.

VcB: As far as your modeling career, where do you want it to go?

Dana: As far as it will take me. I would love to model in Japan or Europe. To be honest I’m happy anywhere and everywhere as long as I’m in front of the camera. But the cover of a magazine wouldn’t be too bad either [huge smile]

VcB: Lastly, we ask all our interviews this, what is your favourite thing about Vancouver?

Dana: By far the people are my favorite thing, I’m very proud to be Canadian, home of the hottest, nicest people in the world.
